What risks do we face?
The immune systems of young children are not yet sufficiently developed to defend them effectively against viruses, bacteria or parasites. At the same time, children’s typical behaviour can encourage the spread of pathogens among their peers. Children often put dirty hands and toys in their mouths, share food, and sneeze or cough without covering their mouths—all of which can facilitate the transmission of illness.
Even with excellent hygiene standards, the spread of microorganisms cannot be completely ruled out. Many of them are resistant to warm water and soap. Rotaviruses, for example, are only inactivated at 60°C after around 30 minutes and cannot be effectively eliminated with alcohol or ordinary detergents.
For this reason, professional disinfectants that are effective against pathogens should be used to clean tables, door handles, handrails and toilets. If rotavirus, chickenpox, influenza, scarlet fever, streptococcal infections, scabies, head lice or Legionella occur within a facility, it is advisable to disinfect both the rooms and the toys.
